Bailey's Happy Tail
My husband and I decided that we wanted a dog in the Spring of 2003.  We discovered PWP online and made a journey to your shelter on Bethel Rd.  We found you literally a week before you were to shut down and move at the end of April, I think.  We found a lonely looking 9 month old beagle puppy named Max in a cage.  He seemed kind of shy, he didn't bark like the other dogs, and he seemed a little sad. When we took him outside with us, he seemed more interested in sniffing the ground than getting acquainted.  Little did we realize that this was not intended to be a snub, he was just being a nosy beagle.  We heard that he was once adopted and then returned to the shelter.  It broke my heart to hear that he was twice rejected.  We quickly decided that we needed to invite Max into our home.  We filled out all of the paperwork, went on a major shopping spree at Petsmart, bought a hundred books on "how to train your beagle puppy", scoured the internet for information on what the heck we were getting into.  We were so excited to bring him home.  When we brought him home, he immediately "initiated" the carpet, basement, and guest room.  He sniffed and sniffed and sniffed every inch of our home.  He quickly came out of his shell and ran like crazy around our home.  My husband and I wondered "Oh my gosh, what have we just done."  We changed his name to Bailey (Maxwell) to honor his PWP roots, and he quickly became one of the best things to come into our lives. We took a little while to get used to each other and to learn the rules of the house.  But we have really adjusted to home life, we cannot sleep on newspapers any longer -- we absolutely need 3 blankets and 16 pillows before we can comfortably sleep, of course. :)
Being a beagle, he has many unique and quirky personality traits, like non-stop sniffing, "entertaining" ourselves by chewing household items (i.e. remote controls, eye-glasses, books, furniture, lipstick, and shoes.), and baying at every small sound in the neighborhood.  He is very smart, very ornery, very stubborn, and very loved.  It is hard to imagine what life was like without him.  Bailey is a super-affectionate and snuggly puppy, very friendly, very sweet, and very fun to play with.
Living with a beagle is not for everyone, but we wouldn't have it any other way.  We would love to find another beagle puppy to adopt someday.
We are so happy that we found him and that Bailey has found a permanent spot in our hearts.  Thank you Pets without Parents for all that you did to care for Bailey and for keeping him until we could find him.  Thank you also for all of the hard work that you do for all of the homeless pets in your shelter.  You do great work!
 Most gratefully and sincerely
