Henry's Happy Tail
(PWP Note:  Scrappy came to PWP from Guernsey County Pound.  They found him tied up in a yard, absolutely neglected.  His fur was so matted that he could not straighten his legs and it appeared he had no tail (it was actually pinned to his spine from fur growing over it).  The good people at Guernsey rescued and sought refuge for him at our shelter.  His luck, though, only seemed to worsen when we found out he was heartworm positive.  Still, we figured he had made it this far, he certainly deserved to have us fight for him.  We began his heartworm treatment and kept our fingers crossed that a loving soul would come to the shelter and adopt him.  Several weeks later, we got our wish.  Please enjoy his "tail" -- we certainly do.

After discussing the possibility of adopting a rescue dog, we found our way to the Pets Without Parents website. Scrappy's picture along with his sad story of abuse and neglect touched us both and we went to visit him a couple of days later.

He was barely twelve pounds and sick from his heartworm treatment. But beyond his droopy appearance, we saw a soul that needed love and a sweetness untempered by what he'd been through. We adopted Scrappy-Doo on August 29, 2004 and renamed him Henry.
He was at first, terribly, terribly ill from the effects of heartworm treatment but was patient throughout and tested negative for heartworms in February. At that appointment he was twenty pounds!
He has adapted exuberantly to being an inside dog and gets along very well with his three feline "siblings." Henry has proven to be very brave, very sweet and very adaptable. Now that his heart and lungs are all better, he loves to run in the fenced backyard.
We are so thankful for the services, care and love he found at Pets Without Parents. Everyone thinking of adopting a pet should be encouraged to do so from PWP or anywhere that shelters rescued animals. They help those that cannot help themselves and our society should applaud their efforts!
Henry turned five years old on October 15, 2004 and we celebrate him every day! We are so privileged to have Henry and look forward to a long and loving lifetime with him!

Thank you so very much Pets Without Parents-
