Nagi's Happy Tail

We first met Nagi (Dora) at noon on a Tuesday.  My
husband and I had been out visiting shelters without
much success when I suggested we go to the shelter I
used to volunteer at, Pets Without Parents.  The
minute we walked in the door I saw her, a little black
fur ball shivering in the back of a very large cage.
We took her up to the play room, Nagi climbed in my
lap and thats all she wrote. I was in love.  We filled
out the application around 2pm that afternoon and went
home to wait nervously for our call back.  By 6pm that
same night I missed her so much that we went back to
visit her again.  We were at the shelter when our
final reference called back and our application was
approved.  The staff offered to let us take her home
that night, but we had no supplies so we agreed to
come back and get her in the morning.  We showed up a
half hour before the shelter opened the next day and
the staff took pity on us and opened early.  That was
a year ago and Nagi has been the sweetest dog.  She's
still a "Momma's Girl" and she loves catch, walks and
hanging with the family.  I honestly believe she was
fated to be with our family.  I can't thank the staff
at PWP enough for bringing her into our lives.  Since
then we've adopted a second dog from PWP (Zoey's
(Hope) story coming soon!)  If you stop by to visit
the shelter you'll see their plaque on one of the
cages, "Nagi and Zoey were here".  I really want to
rescue them all, but my husband says I can't so I
think it's really important to support PWP.   Even if
you are not ready to adopt remember there are so many
other ways to help including cage sponsorship, "Run
with the Pack" and volunteering!  Thank you again Pets
With Parents for giving me my family!

Zoey's Happy Tail

Mike and I had Nagi (see Nagi's story) for several
months when we decided to add to our family.  We
really wanted a "Daddy's girl" because Nagi was
already a "Momma's girl".  When Mike was a child his
favorite dog was the product of a pure bred retriever
who fell in love with a mutt, so when Pets Without
Parents came by a litter in the same way we decided to
check them out.  By the time we got there two puppies
remained, Hannah and Hope.  Hannah was sitting on top
of Hope and Hope had poo smeared on her ear.  Mike,
always the fan of the underdog, instantly fell in love
with Hope.  We took her up to the play room and I
tried to get her to play ball with me but she only had
eyes for Mike.  She curled up and his feet and waited
for him rub her belly.  She was definitely Mike's type
of dog!  Mike decided to wait on filling out the
application and when he called the next day someone
already had an application on Hope.  We had lost Hope!
We asked to be called if something happened with the
other application and fortunately, for our family, we
got a call back 48 tense hours later.  We renamed
"Hope" Zoey because, although we liked the name Hope,
we thought it would be too depressing to say, "No
Hope" every time we had to correct her.  We adopted
Zoey last Easter and she's been an excellent addition
to our pack. Zoey and Nagi love each other and spend
hours playing together in the backyard.  Her favorite
things include: people who talk in slow motion,
sitting on the air conditioning vents when the air is
on, and lots and lots of raw hide. But her absolute
favorite thing in the world is still her Daddy,
especially when he rubs her ears.
