Lost or Found a Pet? |
Losing a pet is one of the most traumatic experiences for any pet guardian. It is crucial to know what to do in such situations. Finding a pet can also be fraught with uncertainty. First and foremost, always make sure your pet has an up to date county license on a collar around its neck. If you find a pet, call the local county shelter (Franklin County Animal Control) with the tag number. Hopefully, the pet guardian can be contacted immediately. It is also a wise idea to have a personalized tag for your pet, which includes the pet's name and a contact phone number...this is wise for outdoor cats. We also strongly suggest visiting the Pet FBI website. At the Pet FBI site you can list lost and found pets, and gain valuable information on what to do if you have lost or found a pet. If you have found a pet, make sure not to disclose too much descriptive information about the pet. Have the person looking for a lost pet describe the animal to you. You want to make certain the pet is going to its rightful guardian. Unfortunately, some people "collect" pets to sell them for research purposes or to use for fighting. Most importantly, keep looking for your pet and if you have found a pet and absolutely cannot find the guardian, why not consider making the furry critter your new companion? |
