Volunteer
We are always in need of helping hands. If you want hands-on experience caring for pets, volunteering at the shelter is your place. From walking dogs to 'dirty jobs' to foster homes to events, our staff can help you find a job that works best for you.
Foster |
Sometimes a pet needs to be out of the shelter environment for various reasons. Perhaps they are not thriving there; maybe they need a quiet place to recover from an illness or injury; or maybe they are just too young (puppies and kittens less than 8 weeks old). At these times, we rely on a network of dedicated foster families to help these wonderful pets get over whatever hurdles life dealt them. It is a temporary situation, but vital to the health and well-being of the animal. The shelter provides everything you need, including: food, litter, litter boxes, crates, and veterinary services. All you need to provide is a home, a loving environment, and your time. Questions about our foster program? Use the contact button below to let us know. Unable to foster in your home right now? We understand! Become an "e-foster" and send your loving support virtually! |

SHELTER VOLUNTEERING IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED DUE TO COVID. PLEASE WATCH FOR UPDATES. WE MISS OUR VOLUNTEERS!
If you want hands-on experience caring for pets, volunteering at the shelter is your place. You get lots of time to interact with pets. While we will gladly take help anytime you are free, we have some specific times and activities that are of greatest need. Weekdays and Weekends:
Volunteers 16 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Minimum age to volunteer is 8. We require that all volunteers attend an orientation, so please sign up for your session. Orientation sessions take place Sundays at 6:30PM. Pre-registration is required. Please bring completed application to your session. 1. Please call the shelter at 614-267-PAWS [7297] to schedule your session. 2. Please bring completed application to your session. |
Adoption Events |
We attend a number of adoption of events each year. These events entail taking pets from the shelter to designated places so they get more visibility. When helping with these off-site events, volunteers help to transport the animals and necessary supplies to/from the shelter. At the event, volunteers sit or walk around with the pets and talk to people about our shelter and about adopting from us. Most of these events are family-friendly, so kids can also get involved first-hand. We require that all volunteers attend an orientation, so please sign up for your session. Orientation sessions take place the first and third Thursday of every month at 5:30PM. 1. Please call the shelter @ 614-267-PAWS [7297] to schedule your session. 2. Please bring completed application to your session. |
Our Events |
We have a number of PWP events that we hold each year: Run With The Pack: This event takes place each summer. When helping with this event, you could be coordinating vendors, serving water at mile markers, registering runners, and more. Art Auction: This is a fall event. If volunteering for this event, you might be coordinating art donations, setting up for the event, asking local companies to sponsor event and more. We do not require that volunteers for these events attend an orientation. To find out more about these events and sign up to help, please visit the Run With The Pack and Art Auction event pages for details. |
